On 24th July 2019, an awareness programme was conducted by MOHAN Foundation in association with Jeevasarthakathe, Govt of Karnataka at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru.
Dr. Kishore Phadke, Convener, Jeevasarthakathe graced the occasion. MOHAN Foundation was represented by Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, Manager-Information Systems, Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS, Project Manager and Transplant Co-ordinators Ms. Hemavathi BN, Mr. Marulappa LN, Ms. Krishnapriya PS and Mr. Susai Anthony Raj.
About 125 students from the department of Sociology & Social work attended the programme.
Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, spoke on the concepts of organ donation. She acquainted the students with the Introduction about MOHAN Foundation, its vision, mission and later on proceeded with concepts of Organ Donation. She focused on the concepts of Brain stem Death, Circulatory death, types of Organ Donation, Transplantation of Human Organs Act [THO act] 1994, importance of Organ Donation, Burden of Organ failure. She also used a video depicting the criteria to be considered during the declaration of brain stem death.
Dr. Kishore Phadke shared a case study of first cadaveric donor Miss Gowri in Karnataka. He also explained the role and functions of Jeevasarthakathe, Karnataka State Body for Organ Registration.
Dr. Gokul Naidu G, Consultant-Dermatologist shared his experiences being a liver donor to his father. He also focused on the importance of Organ Donation.
Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS discussed the awareness sessions conducted in Karnataka since April 2019. The importance of public awareness was explained.
