Awareness Session on Organ Donation Conducted for the NCC Cadets of 1 Punjab BN NCC at Baba Kuma Singh Ji Engineering College Hoshiar Nagar Amritsar, Punjab

  • On 4th June, 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Commandant, Col Pawandeep Singh Bal, 1 Punjab Battalion NCC Punjab, to conduct an awareness session for their N.C.C.  Cadets and J.C.Os at Baba Kuma Singh Ji Engineering College Hoshiar Nagar Amritsar Punjab. The Cadets were from various School and Colleges of Amritsar. The Cadets were very much aware about Organ Donation.

     There were 2 sessions: the first session for the morning batch, where 400 Cadets and 5 officers attended. Thereafter, the second session for the afternoon batch, where 300 Cadets and 3 officers attended. The session began by asking participants what they knew about organ donation.

    Ms. Neha Sharma then explained the current status of organ donation in India. She also explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation.

     The following topics were explained in detail:

    • What is organ donation and its need in the society.

    • Who can be an organ donor?

    • Explanation about live and deceased donor

    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death

    • Brain death

    • Eye donation and steps required to preserve cornea after death.

    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994

    • Role of MOHAN Foundation

    • What an individual can do to contribute for this noble cause

    • Myths and facts about organ donation

    • Difference between coma and brain death

    A short informative film on brain death was shown and the importance of family consent in the process of organ donation was also explained in detail.

    It was indeed an amazing session. All the Cadets, Officers & Commandant in the session expressed their support for the noble cause.

    At the end of the presentation Lt Col. Amritpal Singh requested the cadets that we all should pledge our organs and talk to the family, friends and teachers about this noble cause.
