Awareness Session on Organ Donation Conducted for the NCC Cadets of 1 Chandigarh Air SQN NCC at Post Graduate Government College Sector-11 Chandigarh

  • On 13th July 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Wing Commander SK Kinha, 1 Chandigarh Air SQN NCC Chandigarh, to conduct an awareness session for their NCC Cadets and Officers at Post Graduate Government College Sector-11 Chandigarh. Around 380 Senior Cadets from various Colleges of Chandigarh and 8 Officers participated in the program.

    Ms. Neha Sharma introduced herself to the students and after that she asked the questions from students to check their knowledge about organ donation and transplantation. Telling them about how important is Organ Donation and the need for organ donors has never been greater. Also, has anyone ever donated blood? Many of them raised their hands.

    She then explained the concept of organ donation to the participants. She discussed with them organs that can be donated after natural death and brain death and asked the cadets about their perceptions of donation after death. She also discussed the MOHAN Foundation's role and how youth can serve as ambassadors for the cause of organ donation.

    Ms. Neha Sharma then explained the current status of organ donation in India. She also explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation.

     The following topics were explained in detail:

    • What is organ donation and its need in the society.

    • Who can be an organ donor?

    • Explanation about live and deceased donor

    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death

    • Brain death

    • Eye donation and steps required to preserve cornea after death.

    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994

    • Role of MOHAN Foundation

    • What an individual can do to contribute for this noble cause

    • Myths and facts about organ donation

    • Difference between coma and brain death

    It was indeed an amazing session. It was an interactive session with the Cadets. The awareness talk ended with a vote of thanks by Wing Commandant SK Kinha. He encouraged the Cadets to spread message of organ donation. The audience applauded at the end of the presentation and got motivated to support organ donation. They would love to share their wish with their families.
