On August 8, 2021, MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for the members of CII Young Indians, Round Table 157 & Ladies Circle 121, Delhi. The session was organized through an initiative by Mr. Vachan Aggarwal, Co-Chair, Gift an organ, Delhi chapter of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Yi (Young Indians). CII Yi is partnering with MOHAN Foundation to take forward the cause of organ donation. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation-Delhi NCR was the speaker.
Mr. Vachan welcomed all the participants and invited Ms. Pallavi Kumar to begin the session. She started by asking the audience “Why should we talk about organ donation?” to gauge the understanding of organ donation among the audience. Ms. Pallavi explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The following topics were explained in detail:
Ms. Pallavi talked about the importance of family consent in the process of organ donation. She also informed the audience about the central government’s effort to include the organ donation clause in the Driving License.
The session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and asked many queries. To name a few:
At the end of the session, brain death movie was shown to give clarity on the difference between brain death and coma. Ms. Pallavi also explained the importance of eye donation and the whole process of eye donation. She motivated the audience to pledge for eye donation and explained how one could pledge to be an organ donor.
The participants were highly motivated by the session. Mr. Vachan shared with the participants that he pledged his organs after attending the first session which was led by Ms. Pallavi. He encouraged the audience to pledge their organs on a special day-“Organ Donation Day” on August 13, 2021.
