On October 5, 2024, an engaging awareness session on organ donation was conducted at Padmashree Bhausaheb Vartak College, Virar, by the MOHAN Foundation. The session, attended by 150 students, aimed to educate and inform the younger generation about the importance of organ donation and the facts surrounding it.
The session began with Sakshi, the facilitator, asking the students how many of them were aware of organ donation. To her surprise, only a few hands were raised, which prompted her to dive deeper into the subject. She explained the significance of organ donation and emphasized why it is essential to donate organs. She also provided a detailed explanation about the differences between brain death and cardiac death, addressing common myths and misconceptions surrounding the topic.
Sakshi took the students through the entire process of organ donation, explaining who can donate, how the process works, and why it is so vital for saving lives. She also clarified the medical and ethical aspects of organ donation, focusing on the crucial role of understanding brain death as the legal definition of death in organ donation cases.
The session sparked an active discussion among the students, many of whom asked insightful questions. One student inquired about the time required for heart transplantation, while another shared a personal story about his friend, a gym trainer, who had donated his body after cardiac death. This real-life example left a strong impression on the students, highlighting the life-saving potential of organ donation.
The interactive session helped spread awareness about the critical need for organ donation and encouraged the students to take an active role in promoting this life-saving cause.
The MOHAN Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to Padmashree Bhausaheb Vartak College for hosting this impactful session and for contributing to spreading awareness among the youth.
