Updated on Monday, August 12, 2024
  • On Saturday, July 20, 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited by PI Mr. Ravindra Daundhkar, in charge of Turbhe Police Station, Navi Mumbai, to conduct an organ donation awareness session. The session aimed to educate police officials about the importance of organ donation and their role in supporting this noble cause.

Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi introduced MOHAN Foundation's missions and objectives and began the session by asking the police officials about their perceptions of organ donation. The responses varied, reflecting both positive and negative views. She then provided a detailed explanation of organ donation, covering essential topics such as types of death relevant to organ donation (brain death and circulatory death), the organs and tissues that can be donated after both types of death, and the concept of brain death versus coma. Additionally, she addressed common myths and facts about organ donation, explained organ allocation and distribution, and introduced the toll-free number of MOHAN Foundation for further assistance.

Ms. Prarthana also discussed the legal aspects of organ donation and the specific role of the police during medico-legal cases (MLC) involving brain death. She stressed the importance of timely approvals, as organs have a limited viability period, and emphasized that donor families should not have to wait for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from other police stations.

The session was attended by 21 police staff members, with approximately 18 pledging to become organ donors. Several queries from the attendees were promptly addressed by Ms. Prarthana. MOHAN Foundation extends its gratitude to PI Mr. Ravindra Daundhkar and the staff members of Turbhe Police Station for their support and for facilitating this important initiative to promote organ donation.
