Awareness Programme for the nurses in Neurology Ward at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital

  • Transplant coordinators of MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Sunitha A.T and Mr. Prakash K. conducted an awareness session on the concepts of organ donation. Nursing students in the neurology ward  of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital attended the session on 11th December 2013.

     

    Ms. Sunitha explained the following points during her talk:  

    • What is Natural/cardiac Death? What is Brain Death?
    • What are the differences between Brain death and Coma?
    • What organs and the tissues can be donated after Brain Death?
    • Role of a nurse in early identification and maintenance of a Potential Brain Death Patient.
    • Certification of brain death.
    • Importance of grief counselling.

     

    At the end of the session she also explained the importance of the donor card. Totally 7 students were present and 5 students expressed their wish to pledge for organ donation by picking up the donor card.
