With the support of the Directorate General of Health Services, Government of India and Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), MOHAN Foundation conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Campaign - SAMSAARA THE CIRCLE OF LIFE on 29th August 2011 from 3.00 pm to 5.30 pm at JIPMER , Puducherry. Dr.DilipKumar Baliga DMS(Director of Medical Services),Puducherry, was the Chief Guest. The campaign was presided over by Dr.N.K.Mohanty Additional Director General- Department of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi. Eminent guests Dr.K.S.V.K.Subba Rao Director,JIPMER and Dr.Ashok Kumar Das Medical Superintendent,JIPMER were also present for the campaign.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. S. Palanivelu, Senior Regional Director, Regional Office of Health & Family Welfare (TN & Puducherry), Govt. of India. Dr.Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation spoke on the current status of cadaver transplant in India and Dr. Mathew Joseph, CMC Vellore spoke on the identification and maintenance of brain dead donors. Dr. George Kurian, gastroenterologist from Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) briefed the audience on the Transplantation of Human Organs Act. The campaign is to help kick-start the organ donation initiative in Puducherry. The audience comprised distinguished guests from JIPMER and PIMS. They were moved by the film on organ donation that was shown later in the evening. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Nirmal Joe from the Regional Office of Health & Family Welfare.
