Angels of Change training conducted for students of Karve Institute of Social Service

  • On 4th December 2019, a group of 8 students from Karve Institute of Social Service, Pune visited the MOHAN Foundation’s Chennai office and underwent the Angels of Change volunteer training. The students were accompanied by their teacher Mr. Chetan Diwan.  A volunteer from Chennai also joined the training.

    The training was conducted by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Ms Ishwarya Thyagarajan of MOHAN Foundation. Mr. Prakash, Transplant Coordinator from Kauvery Hospital was an external faculty.

    The training began at 2 pm and lasted till 8 pm.  Students were taken through a series of sessions which included:

    • History and work of MOHAN Foundation
    • Concepts of Organ Donation and Brain Death
    • Organ donation protocol in hospitals
    • FAQs
    • Case study to explain grief counseling and coordination
    • Recipient videos and communication skills
    • Need for public awareness

    This was followed by practice sessions on event planning, use of social media and public speaking on organ donation. The students enjoyed the session and a lot of discussion on counseling, need for donation, why India lags behind, how to take this to rural areas was generated.

    At the end the students gave their feedback and promised to spread the message in their community. The also received a resource book, presentations and films on organ donation. The training ended with a group photo.y

    MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Kauvery Hospital for deputing their transplant coordinator and SBI Foundation for their support for the volunteer training.
