An awareness talk on Organ Donation was held on 29th March, 2022, at 12.30pm at the Apollo Institute of Hospital Management and Allied Sciences. About 65 students from 1st year Allied health Sciences were actively involved in the Awareness talk.
A short video on how Organ Donation has changed the lives of the people was shown. The first session was begun by Ms. Preetha Baskar. She elucidated the concepts of Organ Donation by explaining What, When and Who can donate organs. She broke down the myths that the public think about organ donation. She explained how to pledge organs and the importance of family discussion.
Since the students would be working in hospitals a video explaining brain stem death, clinical tests and apnea test was played. This was to emphasize the importance of understanding brain death.
An activity based session was carried out by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde to explain the protocols in hospitals for a deceased donation. Students participated in the activity. They followed the protocol and played it very well. A quiz on protocol was conducted and students answered the quiz.
Question and answer session was conducted by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde. Students raised questions on skin donation and how to pledge for it, can a transplanted organ be donated, why is transplant so expensive, is this service available in government hospitals. All questions were answered.
