It is an extraordinary story of two women, Smt. Lakshmi Sulochana and Smt. A.V. Uma Devi, around the same age, 56 years, both from different places of Hyderabad (Jillelaguda and Attapur). Both of them had the same symptoms, severe headache and vomiting, and admitted in Care Hospital, Banjara Hills and Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, respectively around 18th June. Unfortunately, on the morning of 20th, both of them were declared “brain dead”. While MOHAN Foundation counsellors counselled Smt. Lakshmi Sulochana’s family, Apollo Hospital counsellors motivated Smt. Uma Devi’s family.
It is a rare phenomenon where both the families had known about organ donation. Three years ago, when Smt. Lakshmi Sulochana’s son was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure, she donated one of her kidneys for his transplantation and he is doing well now. So, the entire family knew about organ donation and the agony of patients waiting for an organ. Similarly, Smt. Uma Devi’s distant relative underwent a kidney transplantation last year, and they knew the value of organ donation.
Children of both the women said that their mothers have always been full of sacrifices and would have liked their organs being donated. Both of these great mothers’ organs including kidneys, liver, heart valves and eyes were retrieved and distributed to city hospitals on 21st June 2012.
