A new beginning of 'change' through Angels of Change

  • On October 24, 2015, Aman Tandon, one of the student volunteers from the Angels of Change Program conducted his first public awareness session on organ donation. The session was conducted at a park near Shipra Mall, Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. 20 students from the Institute of Management Studies, Noida attended the talk.

The last stage in the training of 'Angels of Change' Program is that the volunteer has to organize and conduct a public awareness session on his/her own so that the feedback on the basis of the content, validity & accuracy of the information given to the participants would be shared with the presenter conducting the session and a certificate certifying them as, 'Angel of Change Volunteer,' trained by MOHAN Foundation would be awarded to them.

Ms. Mareena Thomas (Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation) and Ms. Sonam Choedon (Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation) introduced the Foundation and its objectives to the participants. Then the session was handed over to Aman Tandon who began the session with a game. That helped him to build a rapport with the participants. He was also able to keep the attention of the crowd and encouraged them to ask questions. Wherever help was needed Sonam and Marina also contributed. A lot of myths and doubts regarding organ donation were cleared. One of the query raised by a student was that who gets the organ and is there a sharing protocol in place. They were told that India as a country does not have a national registry as yet but NOTTO (National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization), has started its work for the same.

The participants were also given information about Form 7 (Organ Donor Pledge Form) available on the website of NOTTO and how this would help to maintain a National Registry. They were also told on how could they avail organ donor cards if they wish to be an organ donor.

Aman did his best to keep the entire session very professional. He also went out of his way to arrange refreshments for the participants. He also took the responsibility to collect the forms from those people who would wish to be an organ donor and send the same to MOHAN Foundation who would then share the same with NOTTO.

It was indeed heartening to see Aman conduct this session so efficiently as part of the 'Angels of Change,' initiative.
