A grateful kidney transplant recipient honours ’Kidney Ambassadors’

  • Sri. Bandakavi Subba Rao, a kidney transplant recipient of nine years, honoured "Kidney Ambassadors" on 10th March, 2012.  He received a kidney transplant exactly nine years ago.  Through the efforts of MOHAN Foundation, he received a deceased kidney, and was transplanted at Global Hospitals. Sri Bandakavi narrated that at a time when his kidneys failed and his children were too young to shoulder responsibilities, he even tried to attempt suicide.  Fortunately, he received a deceased kidney and was transplanted the same day.  He has had an uneventful post transplant life.  Thanks to Messrs. NMDC Limited, his transplant expenses were taken care.  His children are now grown and well settled.  

    On the event of World Kidney Day and International Women's Day, Sri. Bandakavi felt it was apt to honour all those that helped him in transforming his life.  An event was organised at the Press club at 11.30 a on 10th March, 2012.  Mr. K.S. Nayak, eminent Nephrologist, Dr.Sahariah, eminent renal transplant surgeon, Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of MOHAN Foundation, Mrs. Uma Shankar (mother of organ donor - Samagna) and Chairman, NMDC Limited were honoured with a citation and memento.  

    On the occasion of Women's Day, he honoured an eminent journalist, Mrs. Vasireddy Kasiratnam and Ms. Mamata, who is striving very hard to get free dialysis organised for economically underprivileged women.  Mrs. Sagarika Nanda, wife of Chairman of NMDC Limited, and President of Mineral Eves Club was also felicitated.
