  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by TAKE SOLUTIONS, Perangalathur, Chennai to give an awareness talk on Organ donation and transplantation in their corporate office as a part of their CSR activity. Mr. Christopher Asir, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, explained the concepts of organ donation and transplantation. The causes of Brain Death, functions of the Brain stem, identification and certification of Brain death etc were explained to them. In addition, counseling the family members, legal formalities and other processes involved were also explained to the participants. Literature related to organ donation and transplantation was also distributed to the participants. The participants interacted well and clarified their doubts. Some of the queries raised were whether patients with a history of diabetes can donate their eyes and whether there are any issues in donating a person’s organs if it is a case of poisoning?. Our coordinator explained to them that a case of poisoning is a medico legal case. Therefore, the investigating officer needs to give consent for the donation stating that donating of organs will not hamper the legal proceedings of the case. For the forensic medicine experts the stomach and its contents are required, not the other organs, so it is possible for organ donation to happen in some cases of poisoning.

Then a short film “Uyir Kodu” was screened for them. There were about 40 participants present in Perangalathur. In addition, about 150 members of the staff of the Alwarper branch of Take Solutioons watched Mr. Christopher’s presentation via teleconference. They were told that the Donor card could be downloaded from the MOHAN Foundation website. 15 participants expressed their support for the noble cause of organ donation. Lastly Mrs.Neera, Project Manager, thanked MOHAN Foundation and presented a memento as a token of their appreciation.
